VARIATION RATINGS
The pattern variation of a flooring design is key – it makes your floor truly unique, and gives it a distinctive character. We believe pattern variations in all products are to be expected and embraced, and we understand that some are drawn to designs with more or less variation than others. It can be hard to tell from a sample how much variation a product has, so we’ve made it simple! At Beckham Brothers we label our products with a colour and pattern variation rating, so you can choose a product that suits your taste. Our four-level variation rating can be understood as follows:
V1 – Uniform pattern and colour.
V1 floors are sleek and consistent. The colour variations of woodgrain are minimal, and all planks or tiles will look similar.
V2 – Subtle variation in pattern and colour.
V2 floors have minor variations, with a slight contrast between the darkest and lightest colours in the product. Most planks will be similar with some minor differences, for an overall coherent look with visual interest.
V3 – Moderate variation in pattern and colour.
V3 Floors have a greater colour contrast between their lightest and darkest parts. Side-by-side, you will see a noticeable difference among planks or tiles such as woodgrain variations like knots, or texture and pattern differences in tile.
V4 – Dramatic variation in pattern and colour.
V4 floors are the most high-contrast and daring of our designs. Many of these floors have unique distressing or textures to maximize visual interest and make a statement. We have labeled our Calacatta Gold, Luni Marble, and Sahara Noir tile designs as V4 products because they replicate the more randomized veining found in natural marble, with high-contrast white, grey, black, and gold streaks.
LUXURY VINYL & SPC
What should I use to clean my LVP/SPC?
LVP and SPC floors can be safely mopped, but we advise against leaving pools or standing water on the floor. If you’d like to use a spray, we recommend a cleaner that does not contain oils or waxes. Your local flooring retailer or hardware store will likely carry a suitable cleaner product – most cleaners formulated for LVP/SPC contain the same basic ingredients. Our installation guides have a care & maintenance section on the last page for reference.
What kind of mat should I use on my LVP/SPC?
Mats should specify that the backing is oil free. LVP and SPC have a vinyl top layer, and oils can bleed into it causing discolouration. We advise against mats with a grippy rubber backing as this can also transfer to the floor.
Can I install my kitchen cabinets over my LVP/Laminate (floating floor)?
Our installation guides indicate you should not install cabinets directly on a floating floor. The weight can prevent it from moving as it needs to and could cause buckling of your floor.&
HARDWOOD
How should I clean my hardwood floors?
Use a very lightly damp or dry mop on hardwood floors, as water pooling can cause damage. If you’d like to use a spray, we recommend a cleaner that does not contain oils or waxes. Your local retailer will likely carry a suitable cleaner product – most cleaners formulated for hardwood contain the same basic ingredients. Our installation instructions have a care & maintenance section on the last page for reference.
What is a sawn veneer, and why does it matter?
When a piece of wood is cut to create a veneer for an engineered hardwood floor, it can be peeled, sliced, or sawn. We use the dry sawn method which, of the three options, yields the strongest wood for best product durability.
Does Hardwood Flooring change color over time?
Any product made from natural wood will change in color over time. Much of this has to do with the amount of direct sunlight the product receives. Darker stained wood can change in color or tone as well, but it will not be as noticeable as lighter colored hardwood. Your local flooring retailer can help you choose the best color of hardwood flooring for your home or business.
ACCESSORIES
How do I install the flush mount SPC stair nose?
Use construction adhesive on the back of the stair nose. Click the stair nose into the adjacent plank. It is recommended to use tape to hold the nosing in place and refrain from stepping on the stair nose piece while the adhesive cures.
